A lot of people who have never experienced hemorrhoids before might be reluctant to seek treatment. However, this is not something you should be reluctant about, as most people have experienced them at one time or another.

Hemorrhoids can cause different symptoms depending on which type you have. Left untreated either type can be very painful for a person. Hemorrhoids can cause itching, swelling, burning, pain, and irritation before or after a bowel movement. These symptoms can also come and go at different times of the day.

If this is the first time you are experiencing hemorrhoids, you may want to speak with a medical professional to make sure you get correct diagnosis. There are several different types of hemorrhoids and several different ways to accomplish hemorrhoid removal. For someone experiencing minor or a slight cause of hemorrhoids, they will have several over the counter treatments to choose from. Someone who is experiencing a lot of pain or who has tried to treat their hemorrhoids with no success will want to seek medical treatment.

If your hemorrhoids cause mild discomfort, there are several over the counter medications you can use. The medication comes in many different forms. Most commonly used is an ointment cream that you can use after you have had a bowel movement. Another form of treatment is suppositories. You can use suppositories to help pass a bowel movement easier. There are also wipes available to help ease itching and burning associated with hemorrhoids. These medications can ease itching and burning caused by hemorrhoids and also help temporarily shrink hemorrhoids.

If your pain is more severe you will want to see a doctor. The doctor will give an examination to rule out anything more serious than hemorrhoids. There are several hemorrhoid removal treatments a doctor can offer to help. Most of the procedures can be done in the doctor's office.

Rubber band ligation - Can be done in the doctor's office or another outpatient setting. The doctor will place two tiny rubber bands around the base of the internal hemorrhoid, this will cut off circulation. The hemorrhoid will get smaller and within a few days the rubber bands will fall off. It may cause slight bleeding but it should only last for a few days.

Injections (sclerotherapy) - The doctor will inject a chemical solution into the tissue of the hemorrhoid. This can help shrink the tissue of the hemorrhoid. This procedure is less effective than the rubber band treatment.

Coagulation (infrared, laser, or bipolar) - This hemorrhoid treatment may have to be done a few times. In this procedure the doctor will use a device that will burn the hemorrhoid. This will cause the tissue to scar and the hemorrhoid to be removed.
