How is High Blood Pressure linked to Snoring?
Snoring is so common that nearly everyone has experienced it at some point. The snorer may not be aware, but someone sleeping (or trying to sleep) nearby likely notices. This can be causing more than just a bad night's sleep.
Someone who does not snore often or loudly can normally just roll over to his or her side and the problem is alleviated.
Someone who snores often and or loudly should probably consider treatment though.
This can signal sleep apnea. This is a common but serious sleep disorder in which the person will stop breathing throughout the night.
Witnesses can usually tell when the person does finally take a breath because a loud snore will occur. This is more than just frustrating due to the noise. The chemicals which help control breathing also experience interuption.
Oxygen levels drop and hormones are released which over time can result in high blood pressure. If this is not treated, serious health problems from heart attack to organ failure can result.
While not required to be diagnosed with sleep apnea, a few things that can contribute are carrying too much weight, smoking and consuming alcohol.
Another interesting aspect is regarding the reverse. Can hypertension cause snoring?
Studies reflect that cardiovascular problems are also associated with retaining water. This usually occurs the legs, lungs and tissues in the throat. Sleep disorders including snoring and sleep apnea can then result.
